Glossier Products: The Good, The Bad, And The Mediocre

Updated: Aug 14, 2018

Coming up in October is my 1-year anniversary of being a Glossier Rep (best year of my life!), and having spent so much time researching the brand, being sent products, and purchasing even more because they are so gd good, I definitely have some opinions. Here's the breakdown:

THE GOOD

Sort of self-explanatory, definitely my favorites. I would take a bullet for these products.

1. Milky Jelly Cleanser ($9-$18)

Seriously, anyone who knows me personally has had to listen to me rave endlessly about this product. It's completely transformed my skin. I used to keep anywhere from 3 to 6 cleansers in my shower at one time, but since I've converted to the cult that is Milky Jelly, I've thrown them all away. I keep a backup bottle stocked at all times, as soon as the one I'm using hits the halfway-mark I have to order a new one in order to keep my sanity. Seriously, this cleanser is worth every penny.

2. Balm Dotcom ($12)

I used to stand by my Jack Black Lip Balm and my Cherry Carmex, but still never found a lip balm that really 'fit'. Well, here she is: the lip balm that just 'fits'. I have no complaints, it comes in a flavor for everyone: sweet, minty, tinted, sparkly, floral. My favorites are coconut and mint, but I swipe on a bit of birthday for special occasions.

3. Cloud Paint ($18)

A product I use almost every day! I haven't used a single blush besides Cloud Paint since I purchase Beam last October. Any other blush just irritates me now, nothing is as natural and easy as Cloud Paint!

4. Priming Moisturizer ($22)

Priming Moisturizer is basically a cheaper and better version of the Too Faced Hangover RX (a product that was my previous go-to primer/moisturizer). It may not smell as pretty, but it definitely works just as well and doesn't leave my skin as sticky as the Hangover RX used to.

5. Glossier You ($60)

Now this one is definitely going to be a preference thing, but I think Glossier You smells delicious on everyone. It's literally formulated to blend in with your natural scent and just smell like... You! It's an amazing scent, I cried when they changed the way their samples were handled (bring back the tiny spray bottle!).

6. Moisturizing Moon Mask ($22)

THIS MASK. This. MASK. It's a godsend. It's so easy to apply and it just completely soothes your skin and leaves it so soft and supple. Plus, it's so GENTLE! I really can't say anything bad about it, when it's paired with the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack first it's even better, but it's the only one out of the two that I use by itself. If you're deciding between the two, definitely go with this one. It's so unique and so powerful.

7. Super Pure ($28)

I know you can buy a Niacinamide & Zinc serum for like a fraction of the price off of The Ordinary, but I am convinced that this one has special powers. It reduces my redness and just makes me feel *cleaner*, I use it at least a couple times every week. I have both the cheap version and this one and I would choose this one every time.

8. Solution ($24)

Solution is truly a solution. I wish my skin were less sensitive, because I would use it every day twice a day (totally not it's recommended usage, btw, please don't do this). I use it three times a week-ish and I can really notice a difference in my skin texture when I am good about it. Worth it! But, I will give this little disclaimer: Solution definitely will not work for everyone. I know plenty of people who absolutely hate it. If you'd like to give it a try, buckle up and get ready for a 4-6 week "purge". Your skin will bring every single zit that's been hiding to the surface, it's supposed to happen. And THEN after that, you'll be left with beautiful, crystal clear skin.

9. Boy Brow ($16)

My eyebrows wouldn't be who they are today without boy brow, and my fellow glossier-wearers agree. This is the best-selling product on the site for a reason. If you haven't purchased, please do, your eyebrows deserve it.

10. Invisible Shield ($25)

I'm considering doing a whole article on this sunscreen (and others) because I have tried SO MANY facial sunscreens and none of them behave like this one. It has no white-cast, no greasy feeling, and no overpowering sunscreen smell. It's honestly the most incredible thing I've ever used, it's the only sunscreen I can convince myself to use every day. It's super thin and perfect for day-to-day use, it feels way more like a serum than a sunscreen. I'm definitely going to be buying some backups!

11. Body Hero Daily Perfecting Cream ($22)

This is the only lotion I've ever actually convinced myself to use. It smells like a high-end perfume and it soaks right into the skin without leaving it sticky. My only complaint is that I wish it came in a travel size, I'm tired of decanting it into tiny containers that will fit into my purse. Seriously, buy this one.

THE MEDIOCRE

By 'mediocre' I don't really mean 'mediocre', I more-so mean I find some faults in these products. I still totally stand by them, but not 24/7 the way I do my favorite glossier products.

1. Soothing Face Mist ($15)

I am a Mario Badescu Rosewater stan, so you can't blame me for slotting this in the 'mediocre' category. The Glossier mist has a WAY better spray though, I may just pour my Mario into the bottle when I run out of this. Anyways, I'm not wild about the smell. That's really my only complaint. It's rosewater, there just isn't much to say!

2. Stretch Concealer ($18)

It's nice and moisturizing, and it definitely does the trick, but I am not crazy for the packaging. I prefer a doe-foot applicator and a little more coverage, but this pot concealer is definitely good for travel and it's perfect for more natural makeup days.

3. Perfecting Skin Tint ($26)

It's just a really light coverage, which I dig for me, but it's DEFINITELY a 'tint'. I hardly notice a difference when I apply it. If that is your jam, then go for it, but I don't think any normal person would be wowed by this product.

4. Super Bounce ($28)

It's just a middle of the road hyaluronic serum for a high price. It feels good and sits really well under makeup, but I prefer my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Serum. I just can't justify this purchase the way that I justify my Super Pure.

5. Haloscope ($22)

This one always leaves me conflicted. I absolutely LOVE the way it looks, it's so fresh and dewy and makes my face look almost wet, but I hate that it never really dries down. It's not like my hair is sticking to my face and the whole highlight is sliding around, but I can definitely feel it on my skin. I guess it's a preference thing, if you can't stand a stick highlight, this may not be for you.

6. Body Hero Daily Oil Wash ($18)

Don't get me wrong, I love this guy. This product smells SO GOOD, but I can't use it with my loofah. That's my real issue with it. So most days, I stick with my Dr. Bronner's Lavender Soap and just lather up. If you're into oils, it'll probably be for you. Definitely feels great on my skin, but not entirely worth the hassle in my opinion.

THE BAD

Now some people will FIGHT me about this. I do want to clarify: these products honestly aren't even that bad, in fact I'd probably still repurchase them. But if we are speaking in relative terms, I would throw all of these off a cliff if it meant I could save like, a drop of my milky jelly.

1. Lash Slick ($16)

The look of this mascara reminds me a lot of the Clinique High Impact Mascara, which was a staple my freshmen year of college when I was all about an understated eye look and *bold, bold* lips. (I don't know why they call high-impact, it's a very low-impact mascara). Super light, very natural, and not really my jam at the moment. I will give it this: it is probably the easiest mascara to wash off in the world and it NEVER smudges or fades during the day. It has it's place in my collection as a very no-makeup mascara for natural makeup days.

2. Priming Moisturizer Rich ($35)

This cream is just a little too thick for my baby sensitive skin, it causes small breakouts and just makes me feel greasy. During the DEEP days of winter when my skin has the texture of an old leather boot, you can catch me applying this sparingly at night (and it does the trick!), but for the most part it just doesn't work for my skin type. The scent is also a little strange, I can't get past it! I know people who would die for this cream. It's just not very me.
